Lois Henry

Up

I was born in Seattle WA.  I didn’t grow up at Tulalip because I was adopted out into the Big World, which started my journey away from my people.  I didn’t know my heritage until my birth mom searched for me to give me back my identity and culture.  My mother is from the Henry Family (Snohomish).  My birth father is from Nespelum.  I have never met him.
I am a mother of two.  I have an Associates Degree in Art and Science from Wenatchee Valley College  in 1989 .   I joined the Cultural Resources language program in 1994 when it was still very small.  I taught five classes at the Tulalip Longhouse Montessori every school day. The Communications Department and Language Program produced the  Lushootseed Video Series for the Board of Directors to increase community awareness.  We moved to the present site of the museum site.   I left the program for a time.  Returned in 2001, where I find my heart resides with this job.  I am mainly teaching at the Tulalip Elementary School with secondary grade level students.   I graduated from Antioch University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies in 2003.  Last year I was working side by side with Toby Langen and Eliza Davis on a “Pre-Treaty and Post Treaty Rights of Point Elliot” for High School students at the Heritage High School. I am interested in pursuing my higher education in a Master’s program for Women’s studies or Pacific Northwest Native History.    Currently teaching at the Montessori School.
