Michelle Myles and
Virginia Jones work with the Primary Grade Levels, while Natosha
Gobin and Lois Henry work with the Secondary Grade Levels.
Their classrooms have greetings, rules, word walls and the
calendar displayed in Lushootseed. This helps reinforce what
the students are learning in their own classrooms and help them
realize how much they can use their ancestral language in
everyday settings. The Language Teachers meet with the Tulalip
Elementary Staff to ensure that the lessons can be modified to
reinforce lessons that are being taught within the school and
regular classrooms. Language teachers participate in school assemblies and can be found participating in just about every before school and after school activity, where they continue to do language outreach providing lessons and materials that parents and community members can work on at home with their children. Classes are taught from 9:20, when school starts, throughout the day until 3:20, when school is out. Teachers then can be found at their office, which is located within walking distance of the school.
